In some circumstances, we may be able
to offer respite care services in order to support carers
to continue their caring role. Respite care is a short break
away providing ‘time off’. When we use the term
respite care we mean care that is provided on a short term
basis for those who need help and normally live at home,
so that their carers can have a break from caring. Some
people prefer the term "short breaks" to the term
"respite".
Everyone
needs a change and time off occasionally, whether it's for
an hour, a day or a week. This can be especially true if
you are a carer - caring can be exhausting. Having a break
is more likely to help carers cope and give them necessary
time for themselves to recharge their batteries.
You
may want a break so that you can follow up your interests
or catch up with family or friends. You may want to plan
a longer break to allow you to go on holiday. Respite care
might also be needed if the carer has to go into hospital
or has other important commitments.
The
person you care for may benefit from a break too, from example
by getting out the house, meeting people or taking part
in interesting activities.
Whilst we do not have rooms which have been allocated specifically
for respite care and cannot take bookings for a long period
into the future, we are able to offer short breaks when
we have a vacancy available.
If
you are considering booking respite care please speak to
our Home Managers who will be happy to advise you of current
availability. They will talk to you about the needs of the
person requiring the care and tailor a respite care package
to meet your specific requirements.
